- 1890/4/1 The Third Domestic Industrial Exposition opens in Ueno Park.
- 1890/6/10 Third Domestic Industrial Exposition closes.

- The first gallery/museum-style exhibition of Hokusai's work to be held ever, is organized by the Fine Arts Society of London.

- The Japanese Red Cross Central Hospital, an important example of Meiji architecture, designed by a team under Katayama Tôkuma, is completed.

- Lake Biwa canal is completed.
