- 1838/3/10 The Nishi-no-maru residence of former shogun Tokugawa Ienari and of the shogunal heir Tokugawa Iesada, within Edo castle, burns down. Reconstruction efforts on the Naka-oku and Ô-oku are given precedence over the reconstruction of the Omote areas. Kanô Seisen'in is placed in charge of overseeing the replacement of the fusuma and other interior paintings.
