御殿 (J: goten)

• The Japanese word goten is a general word for "palace" and can refer to any number of residential or other buildings within a larger compound, typically a castle. Most castles would have had at least a honmaru goten (central bailey palace), if not a ninomaru goten (second bailey castle). 御殿 (O: udun)

• In the Ryûkyû Kingdom, udun ("palaces") were the highest of three categories of residences or households, and the term survives in the names of numerous prominent mansions.
• Miima udun - 嶺間御殿
• Nakagusuku udun - 中城御殿
• Uchaya udun - 御茶屋御殿
• Uchima udun - 内間御殿
• Ufumi udun - 大美御殿
