Robert Bruce Van Valkenburgh served as the United States of America's Resident Minister in Japan from [[1866]] to [[1869]].

He succeeded [[Robert H. Pruyn]] (with US legation secretary [[Anton L.C. Portman]] serving as interim minister) in 1866. The following year, he signed a temporary Treaty of Friendship between Japan and the [[Kingdom of Hawaii|Kingdom of Hawai'i]] on behalf of the kingdom.

In 1869, he was succeeded as Resident Minister by [[Charles DeLong]].
