Tomo Kaneyuki was a retainer of Shônai han and student at the Kagoshima Shigakkô (Satsuma Army Cadet School) who fought and died in the Satsuma Rebellion.

Although not a retainer of Satsuma han, Kaneyuki was permitted to enter the Satsuma Army Cadet School in 1875. When the Satsuma Rebellion broke out in 1877, he was given the opportunity to simply return to Shônai. He decided to remain and to fight for Satsuma; he died in battle at Ueki in Higo province and was buried at the Nanshû Cemetery in Kagoshima.
