Yasutoshi was the second son of [[Sakai Tadatsugu]] and was adopted by [[Honda Tadatsugu]]. He acted as the castellan of [[Okazaki castle]] in [[Mikawa province]] and was sent as a hostage to [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi]] during the [[Odawara Campaign]] ([[1590]]). He was a cousin to [[Tokugawa Ieyasu]] and served in the [[Osaka Winter Campaign]] ([[1614]]). He received Zeze in [[Omi province|Ômi province]], worth 30,000 koku, in [[1607]].
