- The first Chinese investiture envoys since the fall of the Ming Dynasty arrive in Ryûkyû. The king of Ryûkyû, and his officials, are granted permission to maintain Ming ceremonial costume; they are not obligated to adopt Qing costume.
- Dutch East India Company trading post in Ayutthaya is closed.
- An earthquake strikes the Kansai region, severely damaging many of the structures at Nijô castle.
- Emperor Go-Sai abdicates in favor of Emperor Reigen.
- Shogun Tokugawa Ietsuna reissues the Buke Shohatto proclamations.
- Shimazu Ryûkyû Gunseiki, a gunkimono account of the 1609 invasion of Ryûkyû, is compiled.
