- 1796/5/4 Aburaya Incident - a young doctor, Magofuku Itsuki, kills three and seriously injures six in an attack at the Aburaya teahouse in Furuichi, near Ise.
- 1796/7/25 - The kabuki play Ise Ondo Koi no Netaba by Chikamatsu Tokuzô, Tatsuoka Mansaku and Namiki Shôzô II premieres at the Kado no shibai in Osaka.
