Kôka 3 (弘化三年)

1846/4/6 Protestant missionary Bernard Bettelheim arrives in Ryûkyû aboard the British ship Starling.
1846/4/7 A French ship called Sabine arrives in Ryûkyû.

Emperor Ninkô is succeeded by his son, who takes the throne as Emperor Kômei.
Matsudaira Katamori is adopted by the lord of Aizu han.
The French ship Sabine departs with the missionary Theodore Augustin Forcade, who had arrived in Ryûkyû in 1844, aboard the Alcmene.
Renovations are undertaken at Shuri castle.
The shogunate relents on a ten-year ban, issued in 1839, against the sale of "Ryukyu goods" in Nagasaki.
