Akasaka was the 36th [[post-station]] along the [[Tokaido|Tôkaidô]] highway. In [[1843]], the surrounding town consisted of nearly 350 homes, as well as three ''[[honjin]]'', one ''waki-honjin'', and 62 ''[[hatagoya]]'' inns.
