[[Satsuma han|Kagoshima domain]] attempted to sever the connections between the royal court at [[Shuri]] and the ''noro'' in the [[Amami Islands]] (brought under Kagoshima's control after [[1609]]), but ultimately relented in the face of powerful resistance.
