*Japanese/Chinese: 阮 延宝 (Gen Enpou / Ruǎn Yánbǎo)
Gen Enpô was a Ryukyuan scholar-official and expert court musician.
In 1767, Gen and two other court musicians were invited to Kagoshima by Shimazu Shigehide, to teach Ryukyuan court music (uzagaku) to ten of Shigehide's pages. Gen was instructed to speak only in Chinese, in order to help with language study as well; Shigehide is said to have been very happy with the results.
