Maehira Bôshô was a [[scholar-aristocracy of Ryukyu|Ryukyuan scholar-official]] known in particular as an English-language interpreter.
Originally from Kinjô Village in [[Shuri]], Maehira studied at the [[National Academy (Ryukyu)|Ryukyuan National Academy]]. When the [[HMS Alceste and Lyra|HMS ''Lyra'']] arrived in Ryûkyû in [[1816]], captained by [[Basil Hall]], Maehira, alongside [[Anniya Seiho]]<!--安仁屋政輔-->, helped to receive Hall and his men. Maehira had studied English for a brief period, and played a role in receiving British ships in the 18th century as well.
