Shôni Sukeyoshi was the son of [[Muto Sukeyori|Mutô Sukeyori]], and served as [[Dazaifu shoni|Dazaifu shôni]], and as ''[[shugo]]'' of [[Chikuzen province|Chikuzen]], [[Buzen province|Buzen]], [[Hizen province|Hizen]], [[Tsushima province|Tsushima]], and [[Iki province]]s.
After he was appointed ''Dazaifu shôni'', Sukeyoshi took the name Shôni as his family name. As the chief of the [[Kamakura shogunate]]'s [[Dazaifu]] office, he played a role in receiving Mongol envoys, and in organizing the defense against the [[1274]] [[Mongol invasions]], alongside [[Otomo Yoriyasu|Ôtomo Yoriyasu]]. He received a fatal wound, however, during the [[1281]] Mongol invasions, and was buried in Dazaifu alongside his father.
