The Ryû family of Tatsugô village were a prominent power-holding family on Amami Ôshima island. Descended from migrants from elsewhere in the Ryûkyû Islands, the family later changed their surname to Tabata.

Prominent members of the family include Ryû Aiko (also known as Aikana; a wife of Saigô Takamori) and her father Ryû Saeshi (also known as Tameshi).
