Gravestone at the Nanshû Cemetery for Masuda and the 21 other men from Nakatsu who died in the Satsuma Rebellion

Masuda Eitarô was the leader of a group of over eighty men from Nakatsu in Ôita prefecture who fought in the Satsuma Rebellion. Of that group, 22 died in battle, with Masuda himself being killed at age 28 in the battle of Komekura (in Kagoshima City) on Sept 4, 1877.
