Yoshimura Chôgi was a Ryukyuan scholar-aristocrat known as a painter, but also for his skills at a variety of pursuits, including karate, staff-fighting (bô-jutsu), swordsmanship, horseback riding, poetry, calligraphy, and sanshin. He was originally from Shuri.
