Toyohara Muneaki was an Imperial court musician, a specialist in gagaku and the shô in particular. A member of the Toyohara family of shô players known today as the Bunno family, he is known for authoring the Taigenshô in 1511-1516. One of the most influential encyclopedias of musical topics produced in premodern Japan, the Taigenshô is over 1,860 pages long in modern print.
