Yoshikatsu served Oda Nobunaga and won a name for himself by taking the head of Imagawa Yoshimoto at the Battle of Okehazama. He was assisted in this by Hattori Haruyasu, who was badly injured in the incident and died shortly afterwards. Yoshikatsu went on to serve Nobunaga as an attendant and orderly. In 1582, immediately following the death of Nobunaga at the hands of Akechi Mitsuhide, Yoshikatsu was killed fending off Akechi troops at Nijô.
