Yo Shunei

Yô Shun'ei was a Ryukyuan scholar-bureaucrat known for his involvement in producing the first calendar calculated and compiled in Ryûkyû, along with his older brother Yô Shunshi.

Shun'ei traveled to Fuzhou in 1670 to study calendrics alongside his older brother Shunshi, who had been in Fuzhou since 1667 and who had received permission from the Qing emperor to produce a calendar. Shunshi died the following year, but Shun'ei continued his studies. After returning to Ryûkyû from Fuzhou, he calculated and compiled his calendar in 1673. The following year (1674), woodblocks were cut, and copies were printed and distributed across the kingdom.
