Shuku michi, or post roads, were major highways maintained by the royal court of the Ryûkyû Kingdom, connecting the kingdom's capital at Shuri with the banju (regional offices) in Nakagami, Kunigami, and Shimajiri (the central, northern, and southern sections of Okinawa Island, respectively).
The shuku michi leading from Shuri to the Nakagami banju at Urasoe began at the Matsuzaki riding grounds (Matsuzaki baba), and traveled past the natural spring Adani-gaa and its associated shrine, Adani-ga-daki, before joining up with the Jiibu ufumichi ("large road") and then continuing on to Urasoe.
