Otomo no Tabito

Ôtomo no Tabito was a notable poet of the Nara period, whose poetry is included in the Man'yôshû.

He was appointed Dazai no sochi and traveled to Dazaifu in 728, along with his wife, who died shortly afterward.

He died in the Inland Sea port-town of Tomonoura in 730. His son, Ôtomo no Yakamochi, is also among the most celebrated Japanese poets.
