Yoshiakira was a grandson of Murakami Yoshikiyo. He came to serve Niwa Nagahide and later Toyotomi Hideyoshi. He was established at Honjô in Echigo in 1596 and was later named as a counselor to Tokugawa (Matsudaira) Tadateru (who was given a huge fief in Echigo in 1610). When Tadateru was stripped of his domain for allegedly plotting against the shôgun, Yoshiakira lost his lands as well. He was sent to Tamba province, where he died.
