Nakasone Shozan

Nakasone Shôzan was a court painter in the service of the Ryûkyû Kingdom.

Originally from Shuri, he was appointed official court painter to the royal court in 1865. He is known for his views of the capital, including a painting of Shuri castle today held by the Okinawa Prefectural Museum, and an accordion book of illustrations of the "Customs and Manners of Okinawa" (Okinawa fûzoku no zu) in the University of Hawaii collection.
