Matayoshi Baikin was the personal physician to Prince Ôgimi Chôki, lead ambassador on the 1796 Ryukyuan embassy to Edo.

Matayoshi is also said to have been an accomplished performer of kudoki bayashi, a dance form which he demonstrated for Shimazu Narinobu, in a performance at which Katsuragawa Hoshû was also in attendance.
