Jacques Specx

Jacques Specx was the first opperhoofd (head, or factor) of the Dutch East India Company factory at Hirado. He later served as governor-general of the Company's operations in Batavia (Jakarta).[1]

Specx received a red seal license from Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1611, authorizing him (within the Japanese system) to engage in trade between Japan and Southeast Asia.
