Jacques Specx was the first opperhoofd (head, or factor) of the Dutch East India Company factory at Hirado, serving in that position from 20 September 1609 until 28 August 1612, and again from 1614/8/6 until 31 January 1621. He later served as governor-general of the Company's operations in Batavia (Jakarta), from 25 September 1629 until 7 September 1632.[1]

Specx received a red seal license from Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1611, authorizing him (within the Japanese system) to engage in trade between Japan and Southeast Asia.
