History
Tradition states that theIchiden Ryu lineage begins with Marume Mondonoshô Norikichi (丸目主水正則吉).[1] His student, Kuniie Yauemon (国家弥右衛門)[2] taught Asayama Ichidensai Shigetatsu, founder of Asayama Ichiden Ryu. Ichidensai then spread his tradition across the country. However, the historical records for this lineage are unclear.
Another tradition claims that he learned from a variety of teachers, including Kamiizumi Hidetsuna, Okuyama Saemondayu Tadanobu (奥山左衛門大夫忠信)[3], Nakamura Senjurô(中村泉十郎)[4], as well as with the Yoshioka family in the capital. There is also some thought there may be a connection with Tamiya Ryu.
