I hope folks will use this to let me know what I need to do... I'm still a novice at this Wiki thing. JLBadgley

notes & sources

We're still going on a case by case basis, but it isn't always necessary to footnote every piece of info from a source unless it's a direct quote, so we've mostly been just listing the sources in the "references" section.

I think that until we have a substantial collection of bujutsu, we should probably leave out the more specific "~jutsu" category links. Once we get a long list of articles, we can create the categories on a case by case basis.

Also, because we aren't necessarily footnoting every piece of info that comes from a book we list as a source, it isn't necessary to footnote "sources needed" - they can be assumed to have come from one of the books listed as a reference (I left them in the kenjutsu article assuming that you'll be adding the info later). But if the info could be contentious, it is good to footnote it specifically with the source. But rather than footnoting "sources needed", just tag the whole article with one of the following tags:

{{stub}} - a short article with missing info. {{verify}} - an article with information that seems questionable or incorrect, or with info that doesn't match the references. {{draft}} - An article that is messy or poorly formatted.

Lastly, again, case by case, but we tend to add a "references" section with book citations even if there are footnotes in the article itself.

I think that's about it :D - I really need to update the "help" pages. Yet another thing to do on my list.

Thanks for the info. I'll try to remember everything--I do find different styles, but I'll try to keep up with what I see in the other articles until there is specific information in the "help" pages to the contrary. :)

Formatting tips

Not sure if you'll check the forum or here first, but here's a post with a couple formatting tips for the articles: http://forums.samurai-archives.com/viewtopic.php?p=31948#31948

Seems this redirect doesn't go anywhere: Mizuno Nobumasa - is this correct? --Kitsuno 14:34, 7 November 2007 (PST)
Hmmm... we should probably delete that. I thought he was coming up later, but it seems I was mistaken. We should probably delete the redirect. Sorry about that. --Josh

Notes on articles

Oda Nobuhiro -- this article mentions the Nagashima monto while the article on Oda Nobutsugu mentions the Nagashima ikko.

Oda Nobukane is also listed in the Sengoku Biographical Dictionary as Oda Nobuyoshi, although that is already in the Wiki as another individual.

Oops

Any idea who this might be? No big deal at all, I can easily move it to the right title: SamuraiWiki:Searching --Kitsuno 10:36, 11 November 2007 (PST)

Hmmm... not sure how that happened. It should be Takenaka Shigemoto. --JLBadgley 10:41, 11 November 2007 (PST)
I checked the delete log, looks like someone did the same thing back in January too. That link must be somewhere on here where it is easy to click accidentally. --Kitsuno 10:56, 11 November 2007 (PST)
When you do a search and it can't find it, that's one of the links that shows up, and since there isn't anything there, it is green. I'm going to put something there as a placeholder so it won't show up again (or at least won't open in edit mode). -- JLBadgley 11:02, 11 November 2007 (PST)

Onin War

We've needed an article on this from the start - thanks for starting to tackle it. Do you have Paul Varley's "The Onin War" by any chance? That is pretty much the bible of the Onin war. I have a copy, but it is about 6,000 miles away in a box. See Hino Tomiko for more Onin war details, and there is also an article on the onin war that you could use as a reference on the main site: http://www.samurai-archives.com/tow.html --Kitsuno 11:34, 12 November 2007 (PST)

Unfortunately, I don't have that one. I figured I'd hit the highlights, at least. Honestly, it isn't my best subject, so I'm studying and learning as I go. There were just so many articles referencing it that I thought something needed to be done. --JLBadgley 19:25, 12 November 2007 (PST)

Kanji pages

In the category tag, don't forget to add the hiragana so that the article will be listed in order of hiragana rather than listed by kanji in the category page for kanji. Also, just so we don't get ahead of ourselves, add the kanji to the fujiwara kanji page rather than (or before) creating a bunch of kanji pages without the kanji. --Kitsuno 11:32, 29 November 2007 (PST)

Re: your message - the kanji for the names of the people we add to the kanji pages. Otherwise, within days we'll end up with hundreds of names with no kanji, which would sort of defeat the point of having a page where you can look up kanji. --Kitsuno 23:14, 29 November 2007 (PST)

Heian Period

Thanks for the article start - did you keep track of the sources? It would be good to get them listed, give people a place to start reading to add to the artcle. --Kitsuno 10:04, 13 January 2008 (PST)
