• 1633/3/26 Tokugawa Iemitsu appoints junior counselors (wakadoshiyori) for the first time.
• 1633/5 Renovation efforts begin at Nagoya castle, in anticipation of the visit of Shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu the following year.
• 1633/8/13 The shogunate issues regulations governing inheritance among merchants and artisans.

• Christianity bans issued. Fumi-e begin to be used to test people's faith.
• Overseas travel is banned except for those bearing a hôsho license.
• Japanese overseas for more than five years are forbidden from returning.
• The Kingdom of Ryûkyû is permitted by Ming China to send tribute once every two years, and the number of ships allowed is increased from one to two.
• Shô Hô, King of Ryûkyû, receives investiture. This is the first visit of Chinese investiture envoys to Ryûkyû since the 1609 invasion by Satsuma han, and the last investiture mission to be sent by the Ming Dynasty. The mission is led by Du Sanjun.
• The shogunate declares a series of regulations on the inheritances of merchants and artisans.
• War begins in earnest between the Trinh and Nguyen lords in Vietnam.
