Timeline of 1590
- 1590/3 Toyotomi troops begin invading the Kanto.
- 1590/4 Toyotomi Hideyoshi lays siege to the Hôjô family at Odawara castle (Sagami province), employing over 200,000 troops in the effort.
- 1590/7/11 Odawara capitulates; Hôjô Ujimasa commits suicide.
- 1590/8/1 Tokugawa Ieyasu arrives at Edo castle, his new headquarters. The Tokugawa clan is completly relocated to the Kanto over the course of the next twelve months.

- Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Kakizaki Yoshihiro formally receive and meet with the Ezo (Ainu) island chief.
- The first four Japanese to travel to Europe return to Japan, having left in 1582 to meet with Pope Gregory XIII. They bring with them a printing press, and moveable type blocks for both hiragana and kanji.
