From SamuraiWiki
Jump to navigationJump to searchEmperor Go-Kameyama was the last emperor of the Southern Court. He abdicated in 1392 explicitly choosing to not be succeeded by a direct heir, in order to abdicate power to the Northern Court and end the lengthy Nanbokuchô period of conflict between competing imperial lineages.
He took the throne in 1383, abdicated in 1392, and died in 1424. Emperor Go-Komatsu, who was already reigning as emperor of the Southern Court, continued to rule after Go-Kameyama's abdication.
