- 1559/6-8 Siege of Iwakura by Oda Nobunaga; ends in the surrender of the castle and its subsequent destruction.
- 1559/8 Jesuit priest Gaspar Vilela journeys to Kyoto.
- 1559/8 Ôtomo Sôrin retakes Moji castle for the Môri clan.
Other Events
- Imagawa Yoshimoto seizes Otaka castle from the Oda clan, which is then besieged by Oda Nobunaga. Matsudaira Motoyasu defeats the siege, providing provisions to the blockaded defenders.
- Jinbo Nagamoto attacks the Shiina clan at Matsukura castle.
- Kanrei Hosokawa Harumoto is captured by Miyoshi Chôkei, and is forced to become a monk, retiring to Settsu province.
- Môri Motonari reclaims Akizuki castle, returning it to the Akizuki clan.
- Rokkaku Yoshikata becomes a monk and retires as head of the Rokkaku clan. He continues to serve as de facto leader of the clan, alongside his son Rokkaku Yoshiharu.

- Yuki Masakatsu, lord of Shimosa province, dies (b. 1503).
