Kaieda Nobuyoshi was a Satsuma han retainer who is believed to have been one of the chief attackers in the 1862 Namamugi Incident (in which Satsuma retainers attacked several Brits who were blocking the road). When the British Royal Navy attacked Kagoshima the following year as retribution, Kaieda, along with Satsuma retainer Narahara Kizaemon attempted unsuccessfully to seize control of one of the British vessels.
