Mori Ransai

Mori Ransai was a mid-Edo period painter of the Nagasaki school.

He traveled to Nagasaki in 1760 to study painting, and there studied Qing-style birds and flowers painting under Noshiro Shûkô, a direct student Shen Nanpin.

Mori later entered the service of the Maeda clan of Kaga domain as a court painter. He also had a collection of his designs published as Ransai gafu.

He died in Edo in 1801.
