- Nishikawa Jôken's Ka'i tsûshô kô is first published, in two volumes. (Revised & reissued 1709.)
- Shogunal policies debase the currency, moving from 80% pure silver Keichô coins, to 64% pure silver Genroku coins.
- Construction begins on the Taku Seibyô, a Confucian temple in Taku, Saga han, which is the oldest surviving Confucian temple in Japan today. Construction is completed in 1708.
