Ryô En was a Ryukyuan scholar-aristocrat who served several stints as an instructor in Chinese music and dance for the Ryûkyû royal court.
After studying for a time in Fuzhou in 1768, Ryô led lessons in Chinese dance for performers who were to go on a mission to Kagoshima in 1772; he returned to Fuzhou in 1785, and then in 1789 was appointed to help train musicians and dancers for the 1790 Ryukyuan embassy to Edo. He served in a similar position again in 1805.
