- Kawarazaki-za reopens. Ichikawa Danjûrô VII, Iwai Hanshirô V, Matsumoto Kôshirô V and Seki Sanjûrô II move there, making it their primary venue for a time.
- Onoe Kikugorô III takes on that name in a shûmei ceremony.
- Sakai Hôitsu holds a memorial service for Ôgata Kôrin on the centennial of the latter's death.
