  • Japanese:武田観柳斎 originaly Fukuda Hiroshi (福田廣)

He joined Shinsengumi in 1863. 1864 , He captured Furutaka Shuntaro which leaded the Ikedaya Affair. Kondo Isami treated him particularly because he was expert of Koshu Ryu Gungaku (Takeda clan's military science). But he was disliked by other members as a flatterer. Later Shinsengumi adopted Western military style and Koshu Ryu Gungaku was no longer needed. He lost position in Shinsengumi and contacted to Satsuma which detected by Hijikata Toshizo. 1867, his request of leaving Shinsengumi was admitted and Kondo Isami held farewel party for him. After the party, Takeda was assassinated by Saito Hajime(?) on the way to Satsuma han residence. Takeda's comrade Kato Higuma was ordered Seppuku later.
