- For the empress consort to Emperor Ichijô who appears in Sei Shônagon's Pillow Book, see Fujiwara no Teishi.
Princess Teishi, also known as Yômeimon-in, was empress consort to Emperor Go-Suzaku.
Teishi was a daughter of Emperor Sanjô and Empress Dowager Kenshi (a daughter of Fujiwara no Michinaga).
Teishi was granted the formal title "Imperial Princess" (naishinnô) four months into her life. In 1015/12, she was named Jusangû, an honorary title of "empress." She was promoted to the First Rank in 1023 (around age 10) and four years later entered the palace of Crown Prince Atsunaga.
Prince Atsunaga took the throne as Emperor Go-Suzaku in 1037/1. Teishi became Chûgû the following month, and Kôgô the month after that.[1] Following Emperor Go-Suzaku's death in 1045, in the 7th month of that year, Teishi took the tonsure and took on the Buddhist name Myôhôkaku. She took on the title of Kôtaigô (Empress Dowager) in 1051/2, and Taikôtaigô (Senior Empress Dowager) in 1068/4. The following year, in 1069, she was granted the honorary title Yômeimon-in.
