- 1183/3 Minamoto no Yoritomo and Kiso no Yoshinaka reach an agreement and join forces against the Taira.
- 1183/5/11 Battle of Kurikara - Minamoto no Yoshinaka defeats Taira no Tomomori and Taira no Koremori.
- 1183/7/21 Minamoto no Yoshinaka seizes Kyoto; the Taira mansions at Rokuhara and Nishi-hachijô are destroyed.
- 1183/7/25 Taira forces flee west, along with Emperor Antoku and Kenreimon'in.
- 1183/9 Yoshinaka is defeated by Taira forces at the battle of Mizushima.
