- 1703/1/5 Shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi visits the mansion of Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu; Yoshiyasu's retainers perform or demonstrate a dialogue in spoken Chinese before the shogun.
- 1703/2/13 Tsunayoshi visits Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu at his mansion. Kuraoka Bunjirô presents a lecture, in Chinese, on the Great Learning (Daxue). Ogyû Sorai provides interpretation into Japanese.
