Yamano Yasohachi joined the shinsengumi in 1863 with Shimada Kai and Ogata Shuntaro. It seemed he left the Shinsengumi in Hakodate before surrendered. After the Meiji Restoration, he worked as a janitor for an elementary school and retired in 1896. He had a daughter who was born right before the Battle of Toba-Fushimi. She was then a popular Geisha in Gion. She took care of her father until his death.
