- Western Ezo (Hokkaido) and southern Sakhalin are incorporated into shogunal territory, in response to and as a defense against Russian encroachment.
- A force of bakufu, Tsugaru clan, and Nanbu clan samurai encounter a few Russian soldiers, in the Kurile Islands, and are routed.
