- Japanese: 瑞巌寺 (zuigan-ji)
Zuigan-ji is a Zen Buddhist temple located in Matsushima, Miyagi prefecture. One of the oldest Zen temples in all of Tôhoku, it was built in 828. Though it fell into disrepair over the centuries, the temple was restored by Date Masamune in 1609.
The temple contains two National Treasures: its main hall, and a kitchen building known as the kuri.
