- Japanese: 伊地知正治 (Ijichi Shouji, Ijichi Masaharu)
Ijichi Shôji, or Masaharu,[1] was one of the chief military instructors in Satsuma han during the Bakumatsu and early Meiji periods, and one of Saigô Takamori's chief strategists during the Satsuma Rebellion.
An instructor at Satsuma's samurai military academy, the Zôshikan, he was a master of the sword, and of strategy, even though his eyes and legs were weak, or disabled.
In the early years of the Meiji period, Ijichi served as kyûchû komonkan (宮中顧問官), and as head of the Left House (Sain) of the legislature, before it was replaced with the Genrôin (and later the Imperial Diet).
