- 1715/11 Chikamatsu Monzaemon's ningyô jôruri play "The Battles of Coxinga," debuts at the Takemoto-za.

- Giuseppe Castiglione begins painting in China.
- Higa Jôshô devises the tsuikin (堆錦) method of creating lacquerware.
- A market is opened in Shuri.
- Tamagusuku Chôkun is named udui bujô.
- Restrictions are placed on the export of copper.
- Policies regarding Chinese trade at Nagasaki are changed. Restrictions are placed on the number of Chinese ships allowed to trade at Nagasaki - reduced from 80 to 30; Chinese are made subject to Japanese law; a system of licenses similar to the tally trade system is implemented; and Chinese merchants are from now on to communicate with certain low-ranking officials, and not directly with shogunate administrators.
