Tenna 4 (天和四年) / Jôkyô 1 (貞享元年)

Timeline of 1684

Other Events of 1684

  • Qing Dynasty forces seize Taiwan, ending the rebellion of the Ming loyalists. The Qing Court lifts bans on trade in ports in southern China.
  • The shogunate cracks down on yomiuri news-singers, forbidding them from singing the news in the streets, and banning the production of their news-papers. The ban is not very successful, though, as it is repeated again in 1698, 1703, 1713, 1721, and 1722.
