Edo castle was handed over to Imperial troops peacefully. However, many of Bakufu retainers disagreed former Shogun Yoshinobu and Katsu's decision. Those Bakufu retainers formed Shôgitai corp and they gathered at Kan-eiji temple.[1]
Omura Masujiro the commander of the Imperial troops announced that the attack against the Shôgitai will take in May 15. As the result, almost half of the Shôgitai members deserted before the day.
The battle started at Black gate[2] of Kan-eiji where 450 Shôgitai members guarded. The Imperial troops attacked from front of the gate and behind the temple. And 13 cannons that set inside of Kaga han residence[3] attacked inside of Kan-eiji directly. The Shôgitai was destroyed in a day.
