Masashige was locally powerful in northern [[Sagami province]]. He was at first a vassal of the [[Imagawa clan]] but broke away after the death of [[Imagawa Ujiteru]]. He was defeated and by [[Takeda Nobutora|Takeda Nobutora's]] army in 1521 but whether he died on this occasion or in a battle in June of [[1536]] is a matter of debate among scholars. His son was adopted by [[Hojo Ujitsuna|Hôjô Ujitsuna]].
